Shipping Bikes Anchorage to Tokyo

Shipping 2 Honda Gold Wings & a Valkyrie by air from Anchorage to Narita airport, Tokyo, June -04. Tour Japan 2 weeks. Then ferry to Sakhalin Island. Does anyone have reliable info on what it takes to clear the bikes thru Japanese customs? Would carnet be a must? Hans

Hello Hans.
You DO need a carnet for Japan.

I am helping another rider go through customs at Narita next week. I will give you more detailed information later. See my website for information on motorcycling in Japan. http://www2.gol.com/users/chrisl/japan

By the way, a friend rode in Sakhalin last year and was up to his muffler in mud. And this was a 250 cc dirt bike. You may have problems with big road bikes. The mainland (Vladivostok) route may be a better idea...
