Shipping Bike - FL to Mexico - advise?

Hi All,

I am planning to ship my bike from Florida to Mexico and wondering if anyone has any recommendations or advise.

Does anyone have recommendations for shipping companies? (I have one but wondering if there are others)?

Does anyone know about the possibility of Air Freight from FL to Mexico?
And any recommendations?

Lastly, any recommendations on where to get it crated in Florida? Or recommendations about creating all together? It seems the shipping company don’t do this for you themselves and you have to get it elsewhere.

Many thanks!!

Tammy, be sure to check out https://www.horizonsunlimited.com/ge...ngInstructions

Loads of tips on that page to help you.

Also shipments already made by travellers: https://www.horizonsunlimited.com/get-ready/shipping

Please be sure to add your shipping experience when you do it to the HU Shipping Database: https://www.horizonsunlimited.com/node/add/shipping

Good luck!

Thanks Grant, I've looked at those, they are great resources.

I only found one option for shipping and no options for flying for that route so was wondering if people might have more information.

I also was hoping to get some more input on the necessity of crating the bike vs putting on a palette etc...

Thanks!

Just to state the obvious: Mexico is a big place, and for some areas in the north it hardly makes any sense to go to a lot of trouble (expense, paperwork, crating, drop off and pick up) just to save a couple of days riding. It would certainly be easier to ship within the US (e.g., to Texas, New Mexico, Arizona or California) and ride across the border.

Shipping into the south might make more sense, but it remains true that Mexico is generally considered an awkward shipping destination. You’ll end up spending a lot in money, time and energy in exchange for minimal payback—that’s why few people do this, hence the lack of information.

Not meant to be discouraging if that’s what you need to do.

Mark makes some great comments, I agree 100%.

To answer your question re pallet or not - IF the airline accepts motorcycles on pallet absolutely - but often they do not - then you need to crate - so you need to ask the shipper what the possibilities are.

Note that shipping out of the USA is generally a pain, as they consider motorcycles Dangerous Goods, and add on a whole lot of difficulties. Other than Mexico, most travellers ship out of Canada to the rest of the world - it's worth riding from Florida to Toronto! Air Canada ships motorcycles all the time, often with special deals in the summer for motorcycles.
