Shipping bike from Europe/Italy to South America and from Alaska to Europe/Italy

In March / April 2017 I have to send my bike (Honda Gold Wing 1500) from Italy/Europe to South America (Chile and Argentina) and at the beginning of June 2017 I have to return it from Alaska to Europe/Italy.

Next year I planned to take the America, from the extreme south to north (Tierra del Fuego - Alaska).
After the Round The World of 2013, a serious accident in 2014 (in the Canadian Rocky Mountains), the return to the bike with the trip to the Caucasus in this 2016.

The planned route is in the map below. It is obviously only a draft; It almost 4 months for detail and in part also depends on air travel. Even so I can not proceed with the preparation without first establish where and when to take the flights.
Starting the beginning of April (or the end of March), return the end of May (or early June). Two months, about 25,000 km.
I chose this period because it is the least worst, from the climatic point of view: I get to Tierra del Fuego in early autumn, with still good climate and passable roads. I arrive in Alaska in late May, with the climate now "decent" and passable roads. In between, the season is good about the rains. If it's too cold in Alaska, I'll go slower. If I get delays, these will be to my advantage, because the climate in Alaska of course will be better in June.
The duration will be two months (or so) because I want to make a quick trip ... and also because I prefer to leave my family alone as little as possible.

The key points are.
1) The costs are not the main problem. My primary need are the times (faster), and the least possible complications. Obviously, if I have to choose between a budget of € 1,000 and a € 5.000, I am willing to endure some "discomfort" or delay. This is because my journey is, as mentioned before, a quick trip, where the priority is the respect of the times. Also I do not want to be without motorcycle too long before (is my only means of transport), nor too after (I have other appointments on a motorcycle in Italy in the second half of June).
2) Delivery of my Gold Wing 1500 '98 (now has 913,000 kilometers) from Europe to South America in late March / early April. Where to mail it depends on the costs but above the speed. It would be more comfortable sending it from Italy, but I can take it (guiding) at any airport in Europe, if this is best for speed, safety or cost.
3) The Gold Wing 1500 can use the original case of the Honda Gold Wing 1800; is an iron cage, open, enclosing the bike, with which Honda sends it to dealers. I used it in Australia. The case has no cost because dealers they throw, after receiving the Gold Wing from Honda. Obviously it is not mandatory to use the cash, if the shipper prefer to operate on his own, perhaps because in the airport area there is not a Honda dealer near you has that box (so I made in Nepal and Brazil in Malaysia case not needed).
4) Check the motorcycle in South America in early April / late March. The most likely options are two: Santiago de Chile and Buenos Aires (unless there are closer to Ushuaia airports: think not). In this way I will go down quickly from Santiago or Buenos Aires to Tierra del Fuego (Ushuaia), in early April, before it's too cold, following the shortest way, in Argentina.
5) From Ushuaia, I will go back to the north, following the road near the Pacific coast (in Chile, of course, I'll have to do some zig-zag with Argentina, because there is no road in the far south in Chile).
6) The interruption of the road between Colombia and Panama will overcome with the ferry, this October 2014: http://www.elheraldo.co/turismo/nuev...octubre-163585
7) Arrived In Alaska, I get to Prudhoe Bay and then going back to Anchorage, where (I assume) will ship the bike to Europe / Italy. As I wrote before, I estimate to finish the trip to Alaska in late May, but it could also be the beginning of June (I have no major problems and leave one or two weeks more I can be late). For this the return flight will not have a fixed date.
8) Sent the bike, I will take the bike from the European arrival and return home.
9) I emphasize that the most important thing is the timing. It should not happen that arrived in South America, the bike later handed over to myself, nor that ended my trip to Alaska, the bike later to leave for Europe. Obviously in Europe, the motorcycle must not delay starting or myself returned.

I know that air travel, especially for a heavy and large motorcycles (and little "compressible") like mine, are expensive. I also know that there can be many differences (in the My World Tour, 4 flights, the differences were remarkable). But, as I wrote at the beginning, at this stage interest me more time and mode (from where to where) that the exact cost.

In summary, now I ask you advice on the delivery of the bike from Italy / Europe to South America (Chile and Argentina) and from Alaska in Europe / Italy.
Thank you

Darien Gap

Your key point 6) is a little outdated. No ferries between Panama and Colombia.
Options are sailboat, container, airfright or banana boat...

I thank you for the news. I just recently read in another topic on the forum.
So you confirm that this ferry Por 90 dólares se podrá viajar en ferry entre Panamá y Cartagena | El Heraldo there is no more, and no others like?

Actually there were two ferries but both stopped in 2015.

Please help me.
I found (probably) forwarding agent from Italy to South America, but can not find anyone from Alaska to Italy.
On the link to HUBB there is only one from Switzerland to Alaska, but I have to travel in the opposite direction!

As I find nothing from Alaska to Europe, I decided to move to Canada (after having finished my trip to Alaska) and send (byair) the bike in Italy from Canada.
I have seen on UBB that two bikers have used Air Canada to transport their bikes from Canada in Frankfurt, but there is no reference of email contacts.
I then saw a link on HUBB leading to https://www.motorcycleexpress.com/. This shipper seems well organized and also gives the possibility to fly from Calgary to Rome, which would be great for me. Perhaps they are supported by Air Canada.
I sent them an email and I await response.
Someone used the two mentioned (Air Canada or Motorcycleexpress)?

Hi GW,

here is the link for the Air Canada bike cargo service

https://www.aircanada.com/cargo/shar...ENG_062015.pdf

Fly to Frankfurt (FRA), and on landing use Lufthansa's personal to deal with the paperwork, they know really well how to deal with crated bikes, and slip streaming the procedure so not to deal with any kind of re-importing etc.

Let us know how it goes.

Big problem.
Regarding the motorcycle transport from Italy to South America, the carrier of Rome gave me a quote today: Total € 6,700 (both for Buenos Aires to Santiago de Chile)!
Exaggerated price which of course I refused: with just over 1,000 € I found the flight from Canada to Rome and with as many as Bogota-Panama.
But now I am in trouble, because I can not find anyone that send me the bike to Argentina or Chile. If not from Italy, I'd be ready to go from any European city (UK excluded).
Please help: a flight for my bike from Italy or Europe to Argentina or Chile!
Thank you.

Hi,

there are a few companies advertising here on HU. James Cargo and Intime come to my mind. Contact them, they have experience shipping bikes.

If you choose BsAs, get a local agent beforehand to get your bike out. Make sure it does not arrive on a weekend or public holiday (or near a public holiday) and get all papers (and copies) that the agent tells you will need.

Good luck

mika from Bolivia

Intime? What is? I do not find on the internet.
I asked for a quote to James Cargo: I am waiting for reply.
