Shipping Australia to Anchorage

Hi folks planning to ship/fly my bike to Anchorage early August 2017 from Adelaide or Melbourne Australia and then ride south for four months (woohoo) and fly/ship out of Santiago Chile (or where ever I end up!). My shipper is struggling to find options to either ship or fly my motorcycle to Anchorage (aaargh). (Something about narrow body aircraft and lack of ship options). Has anyone done this from Australia or can steer me towards some options? Plenty of options to Seattle or even Vancouver but then it seems shipping from there blows out the budget - I wouldn't have thought Anchorage would have been such a difficult place to ship to. Anyone else heading the same way?
Cheers Dean from sunny Adelaide

Why not ride from Vancouver to Anchorage instead? A motivated rider can easily go from Vacouver to AK in 3 days.

Besides there are more than one path to and from Alaska. On the leg up, you can ride thru whistler, Williams Lake, Kitwanga, ride the Cassiar (37), visit the Salmon glacier, the head to AK via the Alasaka Highway riding thru Whiterhorse.

On the leg down, you can ride the top of the world, then east to Dawson, ride the 2 south down to Whitehorse, get on the AK HW then ride east to Watson Lake, ride south to Dawson Creek, then to Jasper and ride down the Icefield Parway.

I see only good opportunities for you.

I also think you will apreciate AK even more if you have to earn it by riding up to it.

Safe travels

Very eager to follow feedback on this as I am thinking the same for 2018.

I've been trying to find a company that will air freight my bike; a DR 650, from Brisbane to SFO, so far Iv'e contacted; one way or another, 10 companies listed on the web. 9 are sea freight only; QANTAS tells me I need to go through a Freight Forwarder, suggested DHL. They, 'really don't do motorcycles' I was told although their German site does.

'Get Routed'.com.au; yes, that is what they call themselves; well, just look at the reviews! So I too have been looking. Today I called 'CT FREIGHT', (07) 3621 1288; their Brisbane office, they are going to e-mail me with a list of questions regarding size, weight, crated or not, etc so I can at least get a ball park figure. I'll post their response.

Good luck and if you do find a reputable company I would sure like to know about them. Me and quite a few others by the sound of it!

Any secondary shipping will add significantly to the costs!

Shipping from Seattle/Vancouver would be possible by road .. but the costs are high for the handling from air/sea to road .. that is probably the bit that cost.

The 'best' option will depend on you.
If it were me I'd look at air from the cheapest Oz place to northern American place .. and ride to/from there. After all it is the ride I am after, so maximise that.
