Shipping Australia to India for Himalayas Ride Sep 2020

Gday,

I am organising a Himalayas Ride (Himachal Pradesh & Ladakh) from Brisbane Australia and am hoping others might be interested in sharing a container. Bikes need to be delivered to Brisbane mid June and will be ready for collection from Chandigarh mid August. Cost will be vicinity AU$1,200 to AU$2,000 each all inclusive both ends depending on the number of motorbikes. This cost includes the rail and trucking to get our bikes to the foothills of the Himalayas i.e. no lowlands riding - just straight into the cream! :)

I have ridden this region a few times and have shipped this route before (but in the other direction). Seems as though the Upper Himalayas are somewhat of a drug... I keep going back! Look forward to any interest.

Dylan.

India ride

I have done this ride some years ago, from Dehli to Chandigarh, Leh, Srinagar, Amritsar and back to Agra, Delhi and Oz.

Would always hire a Royal Enfield over there, costs less and every one can help in case things go wrong and you can't use the abilities of a modern bike there anyway. It was hard to ride more than 200 km a day, in these days.

As the cost of 2 grand will obviously only include the motorbike shipping one way and no one can sell an overseas registered bike in India.

Let us all know.

Cheers

Rusty

I think you're missing the point buddy. This is a Himalayas adventure ride exploring places like Spiti, Chandrataal, Zanskar, Dah, Nubra, Shyok, Hanle, Tso Moriri, Pangong, etc. Sitting on a Royal Enfield is kind of novel but it's only something you do if you have no other options... you're very much ready to give that thing back after a week max.

The best bike to be on is the one you know... your own iron horse setup the way you like it. It's not about racing around on performance bikes... it's about riding with conscious reserve on the safest bike possible with suspension and ergonomics customised for you. It makes for a far more enjoyable experience, particularly when riding in harder terrain. The route you highlighted is the highway.

Yes, hiring is cheaper... but cheaper is not always better. This is a once in a lifetime experience for most. A Royal Enfield Himalaya will set you back around AU$50/day so there's AU$2000 in hire after six weeks.

The timing of this trip is 100% about season. It will also be perfect timing to ride on to Nepal via Uttarakhand and explore places like Mustang in October... then even Sikkim + Bhutan... and maybe back down to Rajasthan for the cooler months. I'll orgnaise shipping back to Australia when we know what the group wants to do. Ultimately I just want six weeks to ride back in HP + Ladakh and catch up with beloved Indian mates... happy to work in with the group for return shipping.
