Russia to Japan, Japan to Australia

Hi everyone!

I am in the planning stages of a adventure! I am looking to ride from where I live in England to France and then on to and through Russia (Fuel is very cheap!!) to Vladivostok where id hope to get across to Japan, I am told there is a ferry (was told by a friend whos friends with a friends whos friend bla bla bla that there was one?). Then after a couple of weeks in Japan send bike and find my way to Australia. I wondered if anyone could recommend shipping company's and what paperwork id need?

Cheers! Fletch

That is outdated and incomplete.
See my website in my signature (it is not 100% up to date, but better than that website):
Heartland ferry to Wakkanai is out of business, but supposedly somebody will be taking over the route next year. Discussion on another thread on the HUBB.

From my own experience ....creating a bike in Japan to be shipped is going to cost you about 500 US plus cost what ever size and weight you`r bike is.
I haw try ed to find used crate and no chance then wanted to build my self but no space available to do the work....

Safe ride

Hi Chris,

Cheers for your reply, your websites great got some useful info thanks for that!

And to Kawazoki, yes I expect it will be, but for me this looks like the only route for my plan to ride to Australia, the middle east route seems very problematic with visas and the chance of getting your head cut off seems to risky to bother to me even though it would be more fun. and going through china seems super expensive as iv read you have to go with a tour guide, so for all its worth even having to pay a little more for shipping it still works out cheaper then the other routes, unless I was just to do what any normal person would do and fly straight there, but wheres the fun in that!

Cheers, Fletch

I think there is RO-RO service to Australia. (There is RO-RO to New Zealand at least.) I'll see if I can find the contacts for a company that does that route.

Hello. There is a lot of RO-RO cargo ferrys from Vladivostok to Japan (east and west cost). Freight price 200-300USD per bike. There is direct flight from Vladivostok to Tokyo operated by S7 Airlines. Also there is a lot of connection flights via Seoul and Beijing.

Also There is weekly passanger/cargo ferry Vladivostok - Donghae(Korea) - Sakaiminato(Japan)

Here is Freight prices
DBS Cruise Ferry

Shipping from Japan to Australia is not problem.
Call HOEGH AUTOLINERS, K-LINE, MITSUI OSK LINE etc for freight charges.

Hope this helps.
