Russia to Alaska
 

Hi, we are planning a round the world bike trip,
does anyone know how to fly ourselves and motorbikes from magadan or Vladivostok to Anchorage Alaska. need airline name . Appreciate any other suggestions. Many thanks Alan

I had the same plane - starting my RWT from denmark in may 2007 - but 3 months ago I heard the Magadan Airline got embargo for flying to Alaska.
I check it up with Magadan Airline, Aeroflot and a travel agent in Seattle and the facts are: There are no flights between Magadan and Alaska.

There's no confirmed schdule for direct flight between Magadan and Anchorage for 2007. I hope there are will be one, but no information yet. You can fly from Magadan to Khabarovsk or Vladivostok and then from there to Japan or South Korea onto USA

I change my rute: After Mongolia I will go for Chita and heading east via the new Transsiberian Road to Vladivostok. 200 km south from Vladivostok there should be a ferry to South Korea and from there I hope for an airplane to Seattle.

I can't make up one's mind about the Mongolia rute. I don't know which is the best (the most easy): The northern rute or the southern. I am 62 and driving a Suzuki DL 650 V. Have you a suggestion?

I did the trip in 05. We took the southern route. This was thru the Altai, and on the northern edges of the Gobi.
From what the local told us. The northern route is quite a bit rougher.
I think you would be better taking the Southern route on a Dl650. We had DRZ400’s.

Additionally there seem to be a bit of construction going on out route. Maybe conditions have improved.

One bit of advice; get the most recent road map. It might be available thru the government tourist information bureau. It important to plan your gas stops.
