Planned delay in shipment

Does anyone have any experience in a planned delay while shipping a bike?

If I cannot sell my bike in South America, I would like to ship it by air to Europe (anywhere).

The issue is I have to return to the US for about a month (May). It would not be cost effective to ship the bike to the US and then pay for another shipment to Europe.

Is is possible to have the bike sit for a bit at the departure or destination point for the time I am in the US? or would it be easier to get an agent on one side or the other to collect it for me?

Thanks

Happens all the time with commercial shipments so yes you can do it but you just have to figure out how to do it cost effectively.

One suggestion is that you should contact Dakar Motos in BA as they help bikers with shipping. You'll be there in person so you can fill out all the paper work ahead of time. With a bit of planning I would guess that you can arrange to have the bike delivered to the departure airport just in time for departure. One thing to try to minimize is storage fees at departure and arrival, which can add up. Likely you want to have the bike shipped when you are already in Europe so that it doesn't sit awaiting for your arrival.

The other thing to consider is shipping by sea, as normally the waiting for the bike at the other end is the biggest reason most go with air. If you are lucky, you can load the bike for shipping by sea and the arrival time in Europe will be the same time you get back after your stop.
