North to South America
Hi,
I searched already in this forum and elsewhere for possibilities to ship a motorcycle from the USA to South America. I was not picky on origin or destination, always asked for anything. I found only 2 options: I would have to book a 20ft. container in full 4000$ + fees … (ICSSUK) (5 bikes would fit) or I would have to drive to Panama, then 700$ + fees shared container (no crate or box, kind of RoRo) or 1200$ airfright to Bogota. (Oversea embassy) So either expensive or hot AND rainy. Does anybody here have other recommendations? Does anybody have another idea/recommenadtion? Any advice appreciated. Is somebody willing to drive with me down to Panama, maybe? Starting end of august Thanks Arnulf |

Ok, this would be one option.
I’d prefer driving to Panama, so I’m with you - not to miss these countries. But I’m driving alone in weather conditions that I fear to be not feasible. I asked this in another forum. Do you think it’s feasible starting end of August, concerning heat and rain? Any recommendations? Arnulf |

Hope that's helpful. Mark |

it‘s good to read that it‘s possible, but still trying to figure out if it’s feasible for me. What kind of conditions did you find? was it an average weather year? Temperatures, rain, roads? Anything special maybe? I’m not that picky, travel through hot areas, but it’s my first long time trip. Missing some experience maybe, but that’s how it is. Arnulf |
Central America

Hi there, you will enjoy riding Central America. Here is what comes to my mind: ride carefully and defensively, never ride at night, learn as much Spanish as you can, try to have your paperwork for border crossings in order. I will start in the end of August to ride from Colombia to Mexico, from one beach to the next avoiding big cities on my DR650, so maybe we meet in Central America. Take care. Saludos mika :mchappy: |
