Klying bike to malaysia

Some time back I read a thread from a guy who had flown his V-Strom from KL to Amsterdam in the hold of the flight he was on. The airline was Malaysia Airlines I think. Would it be possible the other way. From some western Europe airport to KL? I want to do se Asia on an XT660R I plan to buy soon.

And also do you need a carnet for Malaysia. I reckon not.
