Israel -> Greece

Currently in Khartoum and on my way back to Europe I planned to take the ferry from Israel to Greece.
When I go to Poseidon's webpages it only says "Services have been suspended until further notice".
Does anyone know if there is another company i could try, or???

Thanks

Sorry it's not good news. Salamis Lines used to run a ferry between Haifa and Greece via Cyprus, but services have been suspended due to the political situation in the region.

I can't really think of anything useful to suggest from Sudan. If you could get to Libya via Al Awenat border crossing and then to Tunisia, you could then easily catch a ferry to France or Italy. However, I'm not able to determine whether non-Sudanese or Libyans can cross at that border. Perhaps you could check in Khartoum with the Libyan Embassy there.

Depending on when you have to be back in Europe, you could ride around via Jordan, Lebanon, Syria and Turkey. This route has been recommended by those who have taken it recently.

Or if you're short of time, you could fly the bike out of Sudan or Eritrea to Europe.

Good luck and let us know how you go!

Hi
If you plan to ride home via Syria then maybe check:
http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/ubb...ML/000004.html
and note in particular, that you should get your Syria visa in Egypt. Also be aware that if there is any evidence of having been in Israel, you will NOT be welcome in Lebanon or Syria.

If you wish to travel round the Med to Turkey, you should take the ferry from Neiweba (on Sinai) to Aqaba and then travel through Jordan, Syria (optional: Lebanon) to Turkey etc.

From personal experience I would NOT recommend trying to freight your bike out of Egypt (Stress, hassle, HUGE cash, time). Ride it to another country and do it from there.

Good luck,

Thanks for answers!

The reason why I want to take the ferry from Israel is because I would like to go to Israel. have never been there but I've been in Jordan, Syria, Turkey... Guess I have to skip Israel, this time too.

Right now it LOOKS like I will get a transit-visa for Saudi, it has been hard work :-) If I do I will go Saudi-Jordan-Syria-Turkey.
If I don't get the visa I will go Egypt-Jordan-Syria-Turkey.

I've got the Jordan and Syrian visas here in Khartoum. No problem.

So if things work as planned I will leave Africa next week after ca 45kkm, 17 countries. I feel sad, but Saudi is still dessert!
