How to ship my bike from Bangkok to Europe??

Has anyone recently shipped a bike from Bangkok to Europe? Which company did you use? Air or sea freight? Cost? Did you call or send email?

I do not get answers to my inquiries or the price is just too high (got one offer: air freight about 5000 €).

Any advices?

Well, one reason for this quietness seems to be in the mail system. All mails did not come through. Yet, the price of airfreight is a problem. What have others paid for air shipping?

Thanks Mike, I sent a mail to them. It would be good to hear about others, how did they ship their bikes, air/sea, total cost, time etc. I know there is a thread on HUBB about shipping, but there's very little about shipping a bike back to Europe and I think nothing about air freight. I guess I should check it again.

In hope that this would help someone I'll summarize the process of shipping my bike from Bangkok to Valencia over sea. I contacted many freight companies in Thailand by email but just a few of them answered. I first asked about air freight but the prices were too high (3000-5000 €). MASKargo/Bangkok told that they don't ship (air freight) bikes from Bangkok, only from Kuala Lumpur.

Sea Fly Services Company Limited, Luc Navarro, Sea Fly Services, would have been cheapest but they sent a quote with destination in Barcelona not in Valencia. That was an error from them but I heard about it too late. Their price was under 1000 €.

Savino Del Bene Thailand Ltd – Bangkok, Savino Del Bene, never gave the price of the shipping although they were ready to ship my bike.

Hellman,www.hellmann.net, wanted me to show a MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet) for the bike which is rather impossible to get. Without that they said it would be impossible to ship the bike. This was not true.

Anthom Services Co Ltd, Thomas Barret, anthom-shipping.com, did work fine except for certain communication problems. They made the crate and the shipping process was easy. Two major drawbacks were the duration of the shipment and the final price. I was told that the transport would take 30 days but it took 55 days. The freight was prepaid but yet the shipping company demanded about 500 € more in the destination port. The shipping was 1380 € and the fees in Valencia were 1150 €. Anthom Shipping promised to me that I would get a refund for the extra fee but I haven't got any reply to my last mail and I am still waiting for that refund (now over a year..).

So I waited for my bike in Spain. I was told that the shipping company will notify me a week before the arrival so that I would be ready to pick it up from the port and avoid very expensive port fees if the bike stays there over a week or two. I never got any notice. I wasn't even sure which ship the bike was on but followed the one mentioned on the Ocean Bill of Lading using a sea scanner. I started asking about my bike when that ship had arrived in Valencia and the broker told that yes my bike is in the port.
The customs broker I chose in Valencia was Boira & Soriano and I can recommend them to anyone. Contact Elisabeth Abalos, www.boyso.com.

Oe Spain Neutral, www.oelines.com, was the other customs broker I contacted. Their procedure was very difficult and I realized that they hadn't done this kind of clearance before. They informed me that I have to get a Spanish NIE number to get my bike and that is not a simple process. It would take 2 weeks and require visits to several offices in different cities. With Boira & Soriano I just needed to apply for a temporary permit for import of my bike. With that I could drive in Spain for 6 months which was more than needed.

I hope this helps

Good to hear that you're still in the business. I'm sorry the shipment didn't work with you that time. I wish you luck with your new company. :thumbup1:
