How to carry a bike from Iran to India?

Hello.

We are now in Turkey East (Van city exactly). Next week will cross the Iran border. We are asking to plane companies to transport the bike on plane from Iran to New Delhi, but not answers by the moment.

Our idea is avoid Pakistan because last months there were some problems. But now we don’t know how to go from Iran to India. Please, anyone can help us?

We are investigating to go to Dubai to get a ship to Mombay, but people say that can be difficult for a lot of intermediates.

Regards from Turkey, Diana and Javier.

I recommend a vist to the UAE. Dubai and the other Emirates is/are fabulous. You can get there by overnight ferry across the Strait of Hormuz from either Bandar Abbas or Bandar Lengeh. An easy way to go.

Iran is a most amazing country. A journey down through it is highly recommended.

From the UAE consider taking a side excursion to Oman .. :thumbup1:

I'm not sure about the logistics of shipping by sea from Dubai to Mumbai, but I know you can definitely air-freight across with Air India Cargo. I have a friend who did this quite recently.

Air-feighting Dubai -->Mumbai (probably also New Delhi) with Emirates SkyCargo is also possible, but this is an expensive option.

The other alternative across to the sub continent from Dubai is air-freighting to Kathmandu, Nepal, with Turkish Cargo.

Good luck with your planning

Have you thought of putting your bike on the train through pakistan?

I have been reading some blogs and articles on the hub and apparently its cheaper than the cost of fuel by riding!

get on at kerman or zahedan then through to quetta / Sibi then on to Lahore.

At Lahore you then drive the last few miles to wagah border crossing and you are in india!

once you are at Lahore you might even think about going to Karakoram Hwy and back!

good luck!

with a bit of effort and research it can be done!

Interesting suggestion about taking the train through Pakistan, but foreigners aren't allowed on trains in Pak. Sorry. Train travel in Pakistan - a beginner's guide

Steph Jeavons is on a trip at the moment , she went from Iran to Dubai and shipped the bike from there

these guys did it:

Handful Of Throttle: Balochistan

also the issue is when applying for visa not when getting on the train!

I have traveled around Mumbai and London after terrorist atrocity on trains, and the locals were very supportive!

Hello!!

Thank you for your answer and advice. Sorry to answer so late but I didn't receive the alert in my e-mail.

Now we are in India. We arrived four days ago with the bike to Tehran. When we have more time we write about our experience to flight with the bike in the same plane. And the process that is necessary to do.

If anyone needs the information before to write the post, please contact with me

Regards,
Diana

Hola Diana,

I'm new in this forum and I cannot yet send a private message (I need 5 post minimum) but I'm really interested in learning how you shipped the bike from Iran to India.

Pakistan seems very unstable at the moment and I'm looking for alternatives.

By the way, I'm from Spain as well.

Javier.
