Freighting Kayaks by rail from UK to Bishek
Hello!
A friend and I are planning a trip to Kyrgyztan this summer for a month of white water kayaking in the mountains and are going to be travelling from the UK to Bishek by train. It takes about 4 days and goes London, Paris, Moscow, Bishek. We will however need our 2 kayaks in kyrgyztan too, and thats proving harder to plan. We want to keep this trip as low CO2 emmissions as possible, so don't want to use air freight. We can source kayaks in Moscow from friends we have there way before we leave and try to organise them being sent by train to Bishek IF that is a possibility? Any ideas would be massively appreciated! Dimensions for the 2 x kayaks: Weight: 20kg Length: 2.70m Width: 1m Height: 0.50m Tom |
just bumping this to see if anyone has some advice x

"We want to keep this trip as low CO2 emmissions as possible, so don't want to use air freight.
We can source kayaks in Moscow" Do you think those kayaks will be manufactured in Moscow? :) They'll have been freighted there from China anyway... Since there are navigable, attractive kayak-friendly rivers in Kyrgyzstan, there will be shops that sell kayaks in Bishkek. A simple google in Russian shows this to be the case: Купить товары для водного туризма в Бишкеке. Магазин «Лодки ПВХ» By the way, the Russian word for a touring kayak is "байдарка". |
