I`ll be taking that ferry this summer with two friends. The info I have found is telling me that it is on a steady time table. I`ll get back to you with more details to morrow.

When are you planning to go?

Cheers Tom

Hi Tom,
Thanks for your reply. so you say this ferry link it is still running?
i should to get into russia on july 27 this year, because my 30 days visa is going on start that day. i say should just because the ferry from sakaiminato/vladivostok it'll leave on july 30 and i'm going to lose 6 days visa... i've just heard about this ferry last night from a polish guy i've met in yogyakarta and i was wandering if may it could worth as alternative, money/time/custom hassle in vladivostok, to the DBS one.
do you also know anything about any special permission to get through sakhalin island? i mean just from kholmsk to the ferry to japan?
and what about your plans?
tanks & regards,

I`m going to dive in to this issue again over the next days, but I have some info I cut from the nett a while a go. I`ll put it here to read!

Hope this helps! If I find something more I`ll post it here.

Ferge Shakalin til Vanino

3. Kholmsk to Vanino: ferry.
A little tricky, since the ferry company doesn't have a set departure schedule. You can go to http://www.sasco.org/index.php?lang=en for their info. There is usually
one or two a day. Each day they announce what time the ferry will leave that day, by putting up a sign in the ferry terminal in Kholmsk. There's a number you can try
calling the day before or day of. We called and they said 6pm or later. We got to Kholmsk at 1pm, and the ferry didn't leave until 10pm. Not so bad, though. North of
the ferry terminal 15 minutes is a nice park on the water, with outdoor and indoor restaurants and swimming Russians.

The ferry cost about $50 for a two-berth room. It takes 19 hours.

All times are GMT +1. The time now is 14:40.
