Diesel car to Japan and USA
 

Hi,

we are planning to travel next year overland from Europe, through Russia, to Japan and the USA. We travel with a 1984 Toyota Land Cruiser with Diesel engine.

Does anybody know if it is allowed to bring an old (1984) Diesel car temporary to Japan and the USA (environment regulations???)?

Yes on the US part; it can even be permanently imported since it is >25 yrs old.

I would say yes to Japan as a quick search of used cars found some Land Cruisers of that year in diesel for sale. As long as your carnet is valid, you should have no problems.
