Chile -> New Zealand by plane
Has anybody recent experience with LAN or any other airline regarding transportation of a bike from Chile to NZ?
I had a email-conversation with LAN in more-or-less-English, which was cryptic. Don“t know if I need a shipping agent or just a packer? At least it sounds like they deny to cope with me directly. Is it necessary to crate the bikes or do you just strap them to a palette and wrap them? How about luggage? Any recommendations about Ackland or Christchurch? At first sight only Ackland is offered. Thanks in advance Greetings from Punta Arenas (Patagonia) Panny |
It doesn't matter which airport you fly into. Chch is up and running again, except for the inner city...
The airline will dictate whether you can get away with a palette or whether you need a crate. Make sure you don't have any new or unused items in your luggage (else, expect customs delays) & the bikes are spotlessly clean. A carnet is helpful to speed up the customs procedures. You can clear the bikes yourselves without too much trouble. Look us up when you are in Northland, we have a room for you. :) |
