bringing bike into the uk

does anybody have any experience with shipping a south african registered bike into the uk?
i've checked some previous posts on this forum but none deal with sa registered bikes.
do i need to get the bike registered in the uk if i intend staying there longer than 6 months?
what is involved (including the cost) in getting this done?

BM,

Have a look at the following link.

I bought my SA registered bike into the UK on the ferry from France about two weeks ago without having to complete any documentation at all. I am going to retain the SA registration as it is a lot easier than trying to convert to a UK rego.

If you are flying / shipping the bike, there may be additional complications, but coming overland there is no paperwork to complete at all. Just make sure you pick up 3rd party insurance on the way.

If you want to sell the bike in the UK, you may need to consider bringing it into the country formally under a customs exemption. In my case this will not be an issue, as I intend to ride it back down the west coast to SA at some point.
