Best (cheapest!!) ferry Athens to Turkey

I know it'll probably be an island hop as the Greeks and Turks don't run port to port services, but we need a way to get 3 blokes and bikes from Athens (Pireas) to the closest point in Turkey.

Advice appreciated.
cheers

some years ago I took the ferry from Piraeus to Rhodos. I had to wait half a day on Rhodos and from there on I could take a smaller boat (wich can carry approx. 2 cars and some motorbikes) further on to Marmaris in Turkey.
This last short hop was more expensive than the trip from Piraeus to Rhodos... (the Greeks don't like it that you go to Turkey):cool4:

Hi there, late but present!
I had to manage a couple of times in the past the same route. there is a regular daily ferry link, between Piraeus and the Kiòs island, in face to turkish coast. from here, you'll take a small boat (wich also carryng a lot of cars and bikes), then it will cost you more if compared to the link distance, 30mins aprox. not less then 40€ each, and a little bit more for the bike..., sounds like a robbery. the ferry should to arrive in Kiòs very early in the morning, 2 a.m. and you'll walk asleep like zombies in the dark, waiting for the custom in, 8 a.m. be quickly at the custom, it is not a large boat.

ANYWAY, ENJOY YOUR JOURNEY!

I'm planning on doing this the other way from Turkey to Greece.

Is it really that expensive to cross between these countries? Mind you, with petrol here in Turkey currently sitting at 3.3TYL a litre, it might not be much more expensive to take the ferries...

Hello, faster and cheapest route is from Athens to Chios island (7.30h) and from there to Cesme (45min), (85km from Ismir). Of course you can do the opposite. At the moment the prices for one person+moto is 45euros(Athens-Chios) NEL LINES, and 50euros (Chios-Cesme) Miniotis Lines.
There are other crossings between turkey and greece but I think there are more expensive and you need more time for both ferries.
