Air freighting bike
Hi, need to get my R1200GSA with sidecar from NZ to Middle East and have a quote for air freight as General Cargo under special IATA DGR provision A70. But not sure who/how to get a "Purge Certificate" - has anyone else done this? Also not sure if the Touratech shocks will be an issue (pressurised?). Have already sea shipped from USA to NZ and that was a drama so looking for quicker option. Cheers

Bike airfreight
G'day. This might help: In my experience (circa 2018) no matter which freight company you use your bike will be processed by GTL Logistics. They've got more faces than the town hall clock & a bit of a monopoly, so don't be surprised by constant cost increases despite what they tell you. I paid $250 to have the "electrical system isolated & fuel system purged", all they did was disconnect the positive off the battery & the fuel system was untouched. Still had a couple of liters in the tank when I collected it in KL. As soon as I connected the battery it fired straight up. As for gas in the suspension I just made a formal letter saying there was only oil & air in my suspension, no gas. On the bikes return from the Uk I had to cough up another $500 on top of an agreed price, to GTL for some bullshit.
Good Luck |
