Air Freight To Magadan From The UK
Hi from a newbie
Can anyone advise where I can start looking to fly my bike and my wife and I into Magadan? TIA |
Hey TIA,
You can fly into Magadan, but the bikes have to be ridden in or shipped by sea in, which is not an entirely straitforward process. You will find it useful to do a search of this site, there are a few posts detailing peoples efforts over the last few years and you will be able to assess the hassle and time requirement of it all and determine if that specific trip is the style you are looking for. Happy planning, it's part of the fun. |
To get yourself and a bike into Magadan there are several ways...
But the easiest is to fly to Seoul South Korea. Then take the Dong Chun Ferry from Sokcho to Zarubino in Russia. (It is far easier to get through customs there than at Vladivostok). Then from Vladivostok you ship the bike to Magadan via TransFes or Sasco. That takes 6 days and you fly up there via Khabarovsk... This is the most well travelled route. |
Thanks guys! Any idea of the costs? I'm looking at doing it in 2012 with the missus on the back. Riding the Road of Bones from Magadan to Mongolia and then flying home.

Magadan only serves flights to/from other internal destinations - nothing international. Prices vary wildly depending on booking period, flight capacity, season etc. It is impossible to give a firm price here. Everyone who has done it has paid vastly differing prices but, splitting it down, you should roughly budget for parts of it on the following, although you can probably do better on the day, with cash, particularly if prepared to be patient (but that runs up hotel costs!) - Bike, air, Uk to Soeul. £1,000 Bike, ship, Vlad to Magadan £150 Self, air, Vlad/Mag. £250 Wife, air, Vlad/Mag. Never tried it, but probably about the same! It is sometimes possible to travel on the ship with the bike. EVERYTHING IS NEGOTIABLE IN RUSSIA!! Note/Korea. It is considerably cheaper to get the bike transported 'in customs bond' by van/truck direct from Soeul airport to the ferry rather than ride it. This saves the very high tax for taking it onto Korean roads. |
Thanks for the info Tony, you're one of the guys who's given me this idea! I've read the RRs' about your Siberian adventures over on ADVrider with Walter. I want to try and do it before it becomes a highway!
Thanks again DG |
Heh Gav, Been to Moscow many times. I am sure when you to haggle I am Russian mate who can haggle of your behalf.
Cheers, Bob |
Cheers Bob, I'll be in touch if it's a goer, a lot of homework to be done yet. :thumbup1:
