AIR FREIGHT - Tanzania or Kenya to Europe

Hi ,

Yes you are right this is the same chap who was asking about ADDIS to Istanbul below.

I have since discovered that we won't be able to get into Ethiopia as they don't issue Visas upon land entry. Arrival at an airport is fine.

So....we now need to find an alternative. Major hubs are Dar Es Salaam, Nairobi, Mombassa and possibly Kigali.

Does anybody know of any agents who specialise in motorcycle transport from these locations?

Thanks and regards

David

The guys at Jungle Junction in Narobi can help. I flew a bike out of Nairobi in 2011 to the UK. they were very helpful. I have week wifi where I am at the moment, but if you look on the HUBB website I posted a report about it in the fringing section. Or you can go to my blog. Www.thedomwayround.blogspot.com and look at what I wrote in June/July 2011.

Sorry I can' the more helpful. But Nairobi will be your easiest best I think.

Thanks guys. Will follow through on both suggestions. I have also heard of another agent in Mombassa who comes recommended by Motofreight who we used for the outward journey. Will let you know how it goes.

UPdate

Just to let you all know that I followed through on the agent in Mombassa and Jungle Junction. Both are very expensive - $3,500 per bike.

There seems to be no willingness to reduce price - freight is $3.9 per Kg by volume. In effect this equates to nearly $8 by actual weight per kg....plus, plus (boxing, fumigation, paperwork, etc)

This is to get the bikes to Istanbul - nearly 50% more than the cost to get them from Heathrow to Capetown.

I hadn't reckoned on that level of cost so am considering alternatives - going to Dar Es Salaam so will look at shipping costs.

Blimey, that is mighty expensive. I just had my bike delivered to my door in Inverness from Capetown for about 1200 quids seafreight.

Interesting!

Hi, would you be able to tell me who you used?

reggie3cl 10 Aug 2015 17:15

Sure, Motofreight in Egham and Econo Trans in Capetown. Econo Trans handled the logistics at the SA end but I was invoiced by Motofreight.

Thanks

I used both on the way out and to return one bike from Capetown. Both are very professional and reliable. And, as it turns out, quite reasonably priced!

Made It

Hi,

Just a quick note to close this thread. We found a good agent in Dar Es Salaam who got us very reasonably priced air freight - in comparison to all other quotes. I will provide details on the relevant section. Both bikes and us are now back in the UK.

Cheers
David
