Air Freight Companies for Melbourne (Aust) to Santiago Chile

Hi everyone,

We are progressing towards leaving early next year and have started looking at companies to air freight the bike from Melbourne to Santiago. Does anyone have any companies they have used for a similar trip and who they found were good to deal with??

thanks David & Em

Hi guys sorry Im not much help with this in regards to company to use, but I will be shipping out around the same time. Im leaning towards shipping by sea to save costs but if its possible to get a kind of deal with 2 bikes on air shipping maybe we could do something together.

I have experience with shipping by air.

Qantas fly direct to Santiago, I have used them from Sydney to San Fran earlier this year it was simple, roll on roll off. They may be able to do the same from Melbourne. Give them a ring, it's a lot easier than crating bikes and using freight forwarders, which I have also done in the past.

Greetings morieson

I helped some friends air freight their bike from Sydney to (can't remember where) a few years ago. We first phoned qantas freight and they were no help. Didn't know, too hard, not interested.

Then we went to the airport (Sydney) and talked with the guys at the freight terminal itself and they were very helpful.

I'd read on other HU posts that was what you needed to do when dealing with qantas freight and they were right.

The guys at Sydney had shipped bikes before and knew what was needed. I don't know how you'll go dealing with the guys at Melbourne they may not handle as many bike shipment as Sydney does.

I'd like to know what the story is with fuel in bikes now. When I shipped my bike in 2007 I had a few litres in the tank and had to disconnect the battery. It sounds like someone has decided that is not good enough any more. I'd be interested to see what qantas requires?

I used Ivan to get my bike back into the country in 2014 and they did a good job so he is worth talking too.

Good luck

IanJ
