so i called air Canada cargo yestidy in Calgary and asked how much to ship my bike from there to Sydney, the guy was nice and after only a few cliks he had a quote.....no crate needed, just ride it onto a pallet.... for $5293 us friggin dollars!!!!! my whole bike barely costed that much. do you think thru a shipping agent it'll be cheaper? even from Vancouver its still $4943usd,! jesus. help someone.

4000-5000 USD does sound a bit steep to me. It is a long way, though. I´d be prepared to pay maybe 50-60% of that (...assuming your bike is a mid-sized one, and not a Goldwing!!)

Send inquiries or call every air freight agent you can find in your area, getting many quotes should soon give you some idea of a good price.

And if you´re not in a hurry, then sending by sea could be an option, too, and should be cheaper as well. But that´s gonna take at least 3 weeks, probably more. And you will most likely have to put the bike in a crate.

There is a reason that Canadians who live close to the border often drive down to the U.S. to catch flights. A good portion of the price you were quoted is going to the government through taxes at the airport.

Check out costs from some place like Seattle.

Are there direct flights from Calgary to Sydney? If not then you maybe paying charges for transferring the bike from plane to plane. Avoid those by finding what airports have direct flights - ring them up and find out the prices from there ... could be a lot cheaper to ride somewhere and ship direct.

You do realize that your going to have to cope with customs in OZ? Carnet or temporary pay or import?

yeah, ill get a carnet. I wonder if I need a "customers broker" in Sydney? no direct flites, Calgary-Vancouver-Hong Kong-Sydney. Itd be more convenient to ship it from Seattle here in USA but everyone says our TAC is a super hassel since its classified as dangerous goods. ???
