World Nomad's Travel Insurance

Reading through the schedule of benefits for the World Nomad's Travel Insurance Explorer Plan for residents of the State of Maryland (US), I found the statement "travel is primarily by Common Carrier and only incidentally by private conveyance" (on the definition of Trip, column 6 of the brochure). The way it is stated, World Nomad's Travel Insurance plan doesn't apply to motorcyclists on their own bikes.

Curiously, on their page A-Z of Adventures, both "motor biking" and "motor biking on a vehicle under 125 cc" are listed as covered on both the Standard and the Explorer plans.

I wonder if anyone in the forum has asked a clarification of this wording from World Nomads.

If you use the site search (upper right corner of screen) you'll find quite a few threads attempting to answer this question. The consensus conclusion, at least in my mind, is that "it's hard to say with any degree of certainty," and "believe only what you see in writing as part of your policy."

Post back here if you've got more to add.

Mark

Wowww! I see that this is indeed an old and recurring topic...!!! I will contact them to see if they can mail me their most current Description of Coverage for residents of MD. Thx so much for your help. Cheers,

Have a look at HCC Medical Insurance Services, it's a US company based in Indianapolis. As a Grumpy Old Git, Hi Mark, they gave me a 7 week extension on my last trip for US$168.96 but youngsters it would appear, are a lot less valuable to them. As to 'World Nomads', I was with them when I had my only smash up overseas and they shafted me big style. Maybe they just hate ancient Brits. Ride safe.

I made a huge mistake of buying a policy with Word Nomads and cancelled it due to generic responses that took a week for them to reply to, rude overpriced and obviously form Maja's response not worth the paper it's written on. I demanded a refund which took 6 months to process! Never again, I wouldn’t recommend them to my worst enemy, but then again ;-)

World Nomads is only a broker. Where you live, depends which insurance company will underwrite the risk.

Its some years since I used them, but being resident in France, the cover was provided by a Danish company. They were first class when it came to medical and repatriation costs.

Just my 2 cents :smile2:

I had to renew my travel insurance after having 2 year travel insurance from ADAC (Germany). To get new travel insurance from them I would need to fly to Germany and visit their office. ADAC had 1st class service after my accident in Indonesia.

I got email from world nomads which stated "We do not place a restriction on the type or size of bike you can ride, but if your licence has any restrictions, you must abide by them."

This was good back-up, but I decided to go with HCC Medical (Atlas travel).
They were cheaper than World Nomads, response was lightning fast. Their insurance is renewable up to 36 months and it does not matter if your trip has already started.

World First http://www.world-first.co.uk/home/tr...residents.aspx is also offering a travel insurance which can be purchased after trip has started and they do not limit motorcycle cc.

I'm on a long motorcycle trip and got world nomads insurance. Big mistake! Got ear infection about a month into the trip and had to see doctor and get some meds. Paid $70 out of my pocket and was told that I will be reimbursed once I send them all the paperwork. Did everything following day. This was 2 months ago. Since then they've been bullshiting me with million emails and just waisting my time saying that I need to submit more paperwork, contact my insurance back home… basically just trying to make it difficult to the point where you give up on the claim and they never pay for it.
