Will a Carnet used in Israel be a problem in Sudan?
 

Am planning London-Cape Town via East Africa by motorbike.

So far my journey plan takes me through Israel and I can avoid an Israeli stamp by getting a 2nd UK passport. Hopefully.

However, it occurs to me that my carnet might show evidence that I've been through Israel and if so, I might be refused entry when I reach Sudan.

It's been a very long time since I looked at a Carnet - can anyone tell me if this is so?

Last I checked Carnet isn't needed in Israel.

Sudan customs ain't stupid though and even if you don't have an Israeli stamp in your passport, they can see an Egyptian stamp from Taba and conclude you've been to Israel and deny you entrance. Your best bet is to take a ferry from Aqaba (Jordan) to Nuweiba (Egypt).

If I did do the ferry route you mention, wouldn't Sudan still assume an entry stamp at Aqaba means exit from Israel?

I was thinking of getting a 2nd passport to deal with this - but then I would have no Egyptian entry stamp at all and I guess those pesky Sudanese could take issue with that...?

General feedback from overlanders is the Sudanese will only check your point of entry into Egypt. If you enter Egypt at Nuweiba port, there shouldn'be any problems, it has been done many times in the past.

As far as stamps go, Israelis are very understanding and will not put a stamp in your passport if you tell them. Instead they'll put it on a separate piece of paper. I don't have any experience with switching passports, can't help you with that.

As a general rule when dealing with Israel, get a second passport.
It's legal and legit. Reason: 'incompatible countries'.

Greece to Egypt ferry
 

Why dont you try to go through Greece and then Egypt and skip the Israel headache (which by the way is an amazing country and especially the desert).

It seems that there is a regular ferry that goes from Pireaus to Alexandria.

BTW, Israel has stopped stamping passports since a long time. They give you instead a little credit-card size tourist card which you hand over when you exit from the country.

However, they stamp your vehicle in your passport (since you dont need a Carnet to go through) and this is something you cannot skip (as far as I am concerned.. things are changing fast in this region)
