Visas required for Vladivostok-Europe via Stans

Hi,

Just wanted to check and see if i have this mostly correct.
We are planning a trip Vladivostok to London 2012 or 2013, my girlfriend has a UK passport and I have a NZ passport.

This is what i have come up with from internet research at the moment.

Visas required:

Country NZ UK
Russia Yes Yes
Mongolia Yes No
Kazahkstan Yes Yes
Kyrgyzstan Yes Yes
Uzbekistan Yes Yes
Ukraine Yes No

And I also understand that the Mongolian visa can be got in Russia (Irkustk)
The Kazak visa in Mongolia (Ulan Baatar)
And we will both need a letter of introduction for Kyrgyz and Uzbek?
Not found too much info on the Ukraine visa though ....

Can anyone shed some light on the situation?

Read Lisa and Simons blogs at 2ridetheworld.com : diary some good recent info in there about visa's and locations of where to collect them . If i recall correctly the Kazahkstan embassy is only open on Thursday in Ulan Baatar .
Get yourself a drink sit down and read good stuff

We got our Russian and Mongolian visas in our home country (Australia) before we left. We had to enter Russia 3 times so needed a buisness visa. The Mongolian visa was`simple.

The Kazakhstan visa we got in Ulaan Bataar and the Embassy was opened most days, it took 24hrs. to process.

Kyrgiz. visa we got in Almaty, same morning.
For the Uzbeck visa we needed a letter of introduction which we organised through David at Stan Tours and this took 10 days, the visa we obtained in Dushanbe, same morning.

The Tadjik. visa`took overnight and we got it in Bishkek.

all of it was pretty simple, most wanted a photo and occassional copy of passport, it pays to have 5 or 6 copies made at home before you leave

Russia Visas can only be applied for in your 'home' country or in other countries where you have some Residency rights.

In other words you can't pick one up in the country before entering.

NOTE. Russia Visas cannot be extended. If running out of time you MUST leave. You then have the problem of where to apply for another. Make sure your Visa time validity had a good margin for possible delays.

You can get a Mongolian visa in (east to west) Ulan Ude, Kyzyl, Irkutsk, Elista, Moscow, St Petersburg.

I got one in Ulan Ude, no extra documents needed.

UK citizens definitely DO need a visa
