Uzebekistan – custom and car parking
 

Hello travellers, I hope this forum is the correct place for my questions.

We are planning the next leg of our trip from Dubai crossing Iran, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan to Kyrgyzstan by our Toyota Landcruiser. For family reasons, we want to break our trip in Uzbekistan for a short time and fly home.

Now we have some questions: Is it possible to enter by car and emigrate without the car? The carnet is not required, but how is he car recorded at entry? Does anyone have information on this subject?

I've never heard of anyone leaving a car in Uzbekistan. When you enter with a car, it is recorded on your customs declaration, which you need to surrender when exiting.

I would imagine it is either extremely difficult, or simply impossible to leave the car in Uzbekistan without formally importing it. Uzbekistan has its own car industry (the only one in Central Asia), so car import duties are very high.

It would be much easier to park it up in either Kyrgyzstan or Kazakhstan.
