US paperwork help needed?

Hey folks, got a question I hope someone out there has ran across before.
In 2002 I moved for the US to Brazil and places my motorcycle in storage in Tennessee and now has an expired license/registration.
I am planing a one or two month trip back to the US and would like to use my motorcycle during that time. I contacted the Tennessee DMV conserning the license and they say I can not renew the MC license/registration due to me not having a residence in Tennessee.
Anybody faced this before and what was the outcome?
