UK registered bike proof of ownership (V5)

UK vehicle registration (V5, log book) has now changed and says this is NOT PROOF OF OWNERSHIP in big letters on the front page, historically at border crossings this has been used as proof of ownership but there was a small paragraph that no one looked at that said it should not be used as proof of ownership.

Now it is in big letters on page one does anyone have any suggestions on what will be acceptible proof of ownership when crossing borders. Driving and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) says you need a recipt from the seller, frankly this can eaisly be forged for proof of ownership. Also as a second hand cash purchase I do not have a recipt.

Is this lack of ownership proof a problem in Africa at border crossings I believe it could be.

I was never asked for the registration document in Africa or anywhere else, the carnet is what matters, it shouldn't be a problem.

The V5 has never been proof of ownership only proof of registered keeper, for example the bike could be on hire purchase so it belongs to them till paid but you will still be the registered keeper.
I have had to show the V5 at a few border crossings and never had a problem with "registered" or "ownership" .

get recipt

yeah i know its a load of crap, just bought a 660 tenere and had the same thought when i got the new v5 through. the only proof of ownership in the uk is a recipt from the person you bought the vehicle from. i never keep recipts, and as i am doing the africa thing too, im gonna chase up the guy i got the bike off and get one. may not need it but better safe than sorry

when you make a good quality color copy of your v5 to show at boarders could you cover over the NOT PROOF OF OWNERSHIP section ?

Suggestion

I have an old V5 off another bike time for photoshop so there is a nice green section with no "This is not proof of ownership" section on it.

May be write in same font this is proof of ownership and also carry recipt of purchase

Mentioning no names this is what someone else suggested that Brits may have to do.

GO DVLA thanks a lot

I'm assuming the "Not Proof" bit is on the very first blue/cover page?

I made a load of half-decent (one-sided) colour photocopies of just the actual info page - the reg no, VIN no etc - and that was enough for just about everywhere in South/Central America.
