Traveling through Bosnia and Serbia

Hi all,

I am planning a motorbike trip through Europe. I will cross some countries on the Balkans as well and my insurance covers all apart from Bosnia and Serbia. I have checked some similar posts here but they were a bit old and I was not sure how relevant the information is.
My insurance provider does not provide green cards so I settled with buying temporary insurance from the border controls. I have done some research and know that not all of them give these but couldn't find a list of border controls which give temporary insurance. I am originally from Bulgaria but I live in the UK and have UK insurance and bike with UK number plate.

My plan was to drive to Dubrovnik coming through Croatia from the north and then cross Bosnia, to get in Serbia. I would like to know if any of the Bosnian border controls near Neum and Ivanica provide temporary insurance. And then if the Kotroman border control provides Serbian insurance? Or is it better to cross just the Batrovci border control for Serbia and not go through Bosnia (I'd rather not do that as I want to travel around a bit more). In addition, I have heard that a one week insurance costs around 10 euros can somebody confirm that as well? Much appreciated!

Cheers

I never had to buy insurance at the border in those countries, because my green card covered them. We were asked about insurance on every occasion though.
If you want an alternative to buying at the border, perhaps get in touch with Polly or Ivo at Motocamp Bulgaria. They can arrange green cards.

Those are quit simple border crossings, very little extra services so I don't expect you can buy insurance there.
And as said, usually they ask for all the documents (including insurance) directly at the border. Although some can be more relaxed and let you pass easily, but this is no guarantee.

You can buy insurance at both and they asked me for it at both, the expensive one is Kosovo if you go there, about 50 euros but if you do get to Serbia first as they won't let you in with a Kosovan stamp in your passport.

hey Mark, thank you for your response. Can you just clarify what you mean by *both* is it both Serbian border controls or both the Serbian and Bosnian ones?

Both Serbia and Bosnia required insurance which you can buy at the border as did Kosovo although if travelling up the coast they didn't ask for it on the very short stretch of Bosnia you pass through between south and north Croatia.
