Travel/Medical Insurance Mid-trip
 

My son is 18months into an indeterminately long world trip and his travel/medical insurance policy has run out. He is currently in Australia and will leaving there shortly heading for USA briefly (7-10days) then Mexico, Central, South America and onto New Zealand over the next 12months. He is using public transport but plans to buy a motorcycle in NZ to travel around there.

Two problems: (1)we can only find one company in the UK that will sell him a policy while he is already travelling. Everyone else requires one to be in the UK at the start of the trip. Its a bit pricey but not too bad but (2) has limited cover for motorcycling and specifically excludes "motorcycle touring".

Does any else know of a company that will sell mid-trip medical insurance and one that covers motorcycle use?

Or, does anyone know of a company in Oz that will sell non Australian nationals (I haven't looked yet, it has just occurred to me).

Sorted earlier today after many phone calls but he will need to buy cover for riding a bike in NZ. We went with True Travel in the end who have a policy that meets all our/his needs except motorcycling in NZ and in the end was quite reasonable as it included up to 2 weeks in USA without having to pay the USA premium. The bad news as far as he is concerned is that he probably needs to come home in around 12months time as it seems unlikely we will be able to renew again.
