Thailand Bike Visa

Hello;

We will be flying in to Bangkok and a week after the bike is arriving. On a British passport so 30 day visa on arrival and I think the bike gets 30 days too? (Although we'll be arriving on different times).

Our plan is to get the bike, go see Laos, go see Cambodia then come back and ride around Thailand for a bit. We are aware that we can just renew our visas by doing a border run, but does the same apply to the bike?

Many thanks
Oli

oo goodie, glad you like the write up. Where abouts are you? We're just chilling in Pokhara for the next week, then in KTM for 4-5 days and fly out to Thai around 19/20. Is Myanmar looking affordable/possible ?

We didn't really research it enough apart from reading about a guy who crossed it few months ago, but I think he had to do some hoop jumping. Hope you can sort it easily with a tour company etc...

Thailand

Hi Oli.

I'm arriving in Bankok on the 27th of November and plan to spend a while in the Pattaya area for Xmas and new year. We then plan to buy a bike each and ride to the Chiang Mai HU meet in Jan. I have checked out local insurance which I'm assured is less than £20 pa.

Bike should be arriving 25-27th, then we're heading towards Cambodia, all the way up to Northern Laos then in to Northern Thailand and slowly wind our way down towards Malaysia.. will also piss about in Tao for a bit aswell. Not sure whether we'll be there or miss the HU meet. We really have no schedule or plan :)

Importing Motorcycle to Thailand without Carnet

Hi,

I'm currently in Istanbul and will ship my motorcycle to Bangkok this weekend without a carnet. Did you import your bikes into Thailand without carnets and, if so, how was the procedure? Was it a complicated process? Did you work with an agent?

Regards,

Gurupurkha

Dish, I'm pretty certain you can't buy a bike in Thailand a run it legally on a tourist visa anymore. The place has modernised.

The carnet is not technically needed but they did photocopy it. You sign an aggreement with customs and don't pay the duty/fine as long as you leave before the designated time (which is tied to your visa)

All the best
Oli
