Sudan Visa in Cairo

Just read the following on another forum, seems like the latest info, the poster has no vehicle -

"I have not seen any reports of anyone having been successful in their visa application since the ICC ruling so I just thought I would re-assure a few people out there. I (a British national) and my Czech girlfriend, applied yesterday, at about 12:30pm and received our visas this morning at 10am. A group of British and South Africans we met there, and who applied before 12pm, also received theirs at 10am. We needed the application forms in duplicate, copies of both the ID page of our passport and the Egyptian visa page, the letter of support and of course the $100. Make sure the notes are new and clean. Two of our fifties were rejected and they wanted to reject several of our fives until a friendly guy stepped in and convinced the cashier they were genuine!

It seems as if Americans still get a hard time as we heard several reports from Americans, and in fact anyone who applied with an American, being told there would be a three week wait and they would be refused. There are so many scare stories going around Cairo at the moment. Someone told us they (as a British national) had been given the "3-week treatment" at the "North Sudan" embassy and had been told to go to the "South Sudan" embassy where they could get a visa for the South but they couldnt travel to Khartoum (???) This all sounds rather bizarre and something I had never heard of and I am sure doesnt exist so please, don't believe anything you here in the hostels of Cairo.

One last thing, the Czech embassy in Cairo refuses to give any sort of letter at all, not a letter of introduction nor a letter explaining that they don't give letters of introduction. They advise to get the visa in Vienna. Needless to say the ambassador is a pompous arse with a complex. All my girlfriend could do was write a letter herself, in pen, explaining why she had visited the Czech embassy and they were able to "legalise her signature" on the letter. The Sudanese embassy did not like it, but they accepted it. So, any Czechs out there, try to organise something before you get to Cairo!

We are taking the ferry next Monday. The fare was 306LE for the 2nd class. They would not sell us deck class tickets and the 1st class tickets cost around 550LE. By the way, last month the train fares from Cairo to Luxor were increased. Apparantly there is no longer a 2nd class and 1st class tickets cost 160LE, this was the information we received from 3 different officials at Ramses station today, and verified by the tourist information office. We are taking the bus tomorrow night, 100LE from Cairo Gateway, 9pm
Hope this is helpful."
