South America 3rd Party and/or medical Insurance
I know insurance as a topic has been hammered upon - but I've got a couple of specific questions:
1. Can anyone recommend a specific Insurance agency for liability-type insurance (what if I hit the local land-baron's mercedes?) for Chile/Argentina/Bolivia and Peru? and 2. Even my usual adventure-travel insurer (been good in past trekking trips) won't provide medical/evacuation insurance if bike over is 125cc, and it must be a rental. Can anyone recommend a m/bike or adventure-travel specific insurer? (Background: Australian going to travel 3 mths of S. Amer - see above country list - at end of this year, probably on cheapish Santiago-purchased ~600cc single. So either need Aust, multi-national or Chilean insurance agent) Otherwise my planning and prep is going well, this one has got me stumped thought! Thanks, AJ |

Hi AJ
It's the old "Hazardous Activities" hurdle, isn't it? Try this UK company, www.travelinsurers.com I've just arranged a policy with them and I think they should be suitable for your needs also. They offer worldwide travel insurance to UK and non-UK citizens (not US citizens) and despite the stated 500cc motorcycle limit I have arranged cover to ride a Yamaha XT600 at no extra cost. They were very keen to know how long I'd held a motorcycle (and car) license for though! Tell them what you want and they will speak to the Underwriters. It might cost you a bit more than the published prices but I'm sure they will come up with a solution. Cheers, Paul |
