South African Insurance
 

Hi, I got the yellow card in Nairobi for Kenya, Tanzania, Malawi, Zimbabwe, but they said no more coverage for SA and Mozambique. Does anyone know how to get insurance for those countries? I am arriving Cape Town on 19th November by plane and riding north to Kenya.

I don't know how to get insurance for South Africa, but thought I'd post to let you know that as far as I know 3rd party insurance isn't mandatory here. Have a search around the HUBB and there's some info about a fund that pays compensation if you have the misfortune to hit a pedestrian. No fund to pay out if you dent a shiny new merc though :thumbdown:

3rd party insurance is covered under a petrol levy (part of the petrol price). So no insurance for SA.

For Botswana you pay insurance at the border and for Namibia the insurance is also in the petrol price but you need to pay road tax as a foreigner.
