South African Carnets in Egypt
 

I have just arrived in Egypt on a SA'n Carnet only to learn that despite what certain guidebooks may say it is NOT possible to enter under any circumstances. Unless of course you leave US$4000 (for a bike)as security with the customs officials, ye right!

Wierd. I came through Nuweiba last week. A tourist police man babysat ne through the whole process and it was very painless. Took no more than a couple of hours.

Also met Stephen and Mauro in Jordan, who had come through Egypt from the Sudan. Thay had not much more than the normal dramas at Aswan.

Not sure why they are giving you such a hard time.

OK after a bit more reading, I get your problem.

Better luck next time, Egypt, Jordan and Syria are all worth a visit if you can cover that bloody carnet.
