So, what happens when you pick up your bike at Cargo/Customs
Hey there,
I'm just hitting the stage of oh my god do I have everything ready. We are leaving on July 14th from Vancouver to Amsterdam. (First time shipping the bike to another country) So I'd like to know what happens when you pick up your bike at Cargo/Customs? So i'm taking my international driver's license, bike registration, passport and green card insurance. Do customs ask for anything else? And how long does it usually take. If anyone could share with me what to expect that would be greatly appreciated. If it makes a difference we are flying the bike KLM. Thanks, Danette |
Hi
Can't give any info specific to Amsterdam but as a suggestion why not contact one of the HU Community's there directly! i'm sure they'll be really happy to lend a hand with advice or any language barriers the could be for you. Good luck. |
Hi,
In London Heathrow it goes as follows: You pick up Waybill from your shipper, present it to Heathrow Customs (taxi necessary), pay a hefty admin. charge. They stamp the papers and give you a pile of documents to read (ignore them, this is just to justify their existence and the hefty charge). You go back to your shipper with stamped documents. He will release the bike to you. You put in gas, connect battery, and off you go. This was the same procedure in Bangkock, as well as in Perth and Los Angeles. How different could Amsterdam be? They don't ask for insurance or driver's license. All they want is ownership of bike. Relax. This will be a piece of cake. |
Okay, I feel better now, thanks guys!!
