Senegal Carnet - entry from Mali

Hi,

I am aware from other posts that technically if a vehicle is over 5 years old a carnet is required for entry to Senegal. If the vehicle is currently 5 years old, can someone confirm if a carnet is still required - how strict are they on this issue as my bike is a 2001 reg and I will be entering late 2006?

I have also heard that entering from Mali without a carnet is significantly easier than entering via the Rosso or Demia borders from Mauritiania - can someone who has entered via Mali confirm if this is the case?

Lastly, I have seen reports that bikes registered in other CFA zone countries do not require carnets for Senegal. Does anyone know if this extends to all African registered vehicles (including South Africa) or is it just the CFA zone.

cheers

C'mon - someone must have entered Senegal recently via Mali? Any updates on how easy it is to enter without a carnet?

cheers
