When i shipped from oz to uk end of last year i was given an agents details who recieved the bike, as i understood it i could have done the paperwork myself but in the end they didnt charge alot for the work, sorry cant remember how much, and i used them.... it took a few days before i could collect it. The one thing to be aware of though is the ports do levy a hefty storage charge.... Tilbury was £35 per day after the first three days. So get your paperwork started as soon as you have the arrival details and before the boat docks.
Best of luck.

I shipped my Honda ST1100 from New York City to Southampton, England in the spring of 2002 by boat (the Queen Elizabeth II). I was on the boat as a passenger, there were a few other bikes and about a dozen cars in the ship's garage.

The UK customs official that came on board at Southampton was familiar with the process, and it was trouble-free - he had a quick look at my ownership documents (motorcycle registration, the licence plate document), then filled out a form and had me sign a promise that I would not keep the motorcycle in the UK longer than 6 months.

After that, I just got on the bike and disembarked. The customs officer didn't even bother going to see the motorcycle, he just filled out the forms, then stamped them after I signed them. There were no fees. It took about 10 minutes.
