Registering bike as a foreigner in South America

Hi,

I'm planning on buying a bike in Central/South America to go touring. Could anyone give me any advice on how I can get a bike registered for that? I am currently on a work visa in Colombia but am likely leaving soon and will be back on tourist status. It seems a lot of people sell on bikes to the next person who wants to ride around, but what's the deal with transferring titles and getting the bike registered if the seller is from a different country? If it makes any difference, I'm a South African citizen, so I don't (think) I have the option of shipping in a bike from somewhere near like the states.

Thanks,
Malcolm.

Have a search around the relavent forum m8, that question has been answered heaps of times over the years and is quite current with some recent threads in different countries down that way

Basically, the easiest way to do it it to buy from another rider and do a border crossing together to swap the paperwork

Cheers
TS
