personal import Australia
 

Have downloaded the Aus government site and even emailed and phoned them.Last comment was that I COULD bring the bike in on a carnet before personal import (returning citizen) but there are conflicting stories. I won't have had the bike registered in my name for 12 months before I arrive as I will have it on export plates.
Has any Ozzie done this trick yet and can advise??

I dont know why this thread came up in a list as similar to one I started about Avatars, but hell, no one has replied in almost two years!!! Just pay the GST when you bring it in and forget the Carnet for Australia. If you bring it in on the carnet it will be difficult.

Carnet is for customs duty stuff.

Think the import thing is for ADR (safety and pollution) type stuff.

Could be wrong but that is my impression.

The customs duty type stuff lets you get it off the warf.

The ADR type stuff lets you obtain regostration to use it on a public road. If your only going to race it and/or leave it on teh shlf you don't need this.
