Passport & driving licence from different countries

Are there circumstances while travelling with one's vehicle that could be problematic or potentially so because passport and driving licence are from different countries?

For example, I hold a British passport and might be getting a German driving licence (and a German IDP). I would be driving with these documents in South America and elsewhere.

I have never done this but would doubt anybody would notice, international licence are drawn up to an agreed format so should all be the same wherever issued, all standard EU licences have the same flag on them so I doubt that will be a problem either.

I have a UK licence and a passport from another EU member state, never had a problem.

Same here: no problems at all. Thinking about it, I've it ever been asked to show either my license or my passport.

If you're getting the German docs because you live there, you could think of taking some kind if proof of address record (like your registration at your local council), but I doubt you'll have any problems anyway.
If you're staying in any country longer than 6 months you might want to check the regulations for swapping your driving license for a local one.

Thanks for replies. It sounds OK. I'm going to try for a German licence.
