Part of Europe or not

Whilst planning a trip to turkey I have come up against a problem with insurance. Although my insurance covers me for europe as it incorporates the old green card into the insurance document, there are certain countries that they will not cover me for??

Bosnia, serbia, albania and macedonia all seem to be a problem.

I have found one company willing to do insurance for those countries but they are very expensive(over £150 more).

Turkey I am informed will give you third party insurance at the border for a small fee but I do not know if the other mentioned countries will do similar.

Three weeks to go and no further forward with this so I am appealling for any help or advice......or do I just wing it!!

Just been searching on the site(maybe should have done this first) and it seems that payment on the border is available. if anyone has recent prices that would be great

thanks:thumbup1:

Recent prices are also available in recent posts on the subject. To some extent it varies at each border. I've forgotten the specific prices but the most expensive for me was Serbia, at some astronomical price for less than a week. Macedonia wasn't cheap, either. Turkey and B-H were somewhere in between, and I never paid in Ukraine or Albania. Moldova was quite cheap (following a bit of bargaining). FWIW, Morocco is right up there in price, too.

There's always a way to get through a border (so far), but there can be a lot of waiting involved, and sometimes you need to buy local currency at a poor rate to pay for your insurance.

No one is suggesting that any of this insurance will ever do you any good in an accident.

hope that helps,

Mark

Go through Hungary, Romania and Bulgaria - should be no problems insurance wise. Carole Nash covered me as standard.

I came back through Serbia - £40 (or so) for a minimum of 1 months insurance, despite only being there two days. Probably a rip off but as there was only one insurance agent at the border and they wouldn't let me in without insurance, I didn't have much choice! :(

People seem to find Serbia and Macedonia expensive at the border. Everywhere else is worth the money. I went through several of the Balkan states in September. Admittedly, some of them on the sleeper train.
