Overland from Europe to China along the Silk Road
Hi Folks,
Myself and some friends are planning to arrive in Germany in April 2011, buy bikes, and travel to China and hopefully on to Australia on the following route: Germany, Austria, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, Turkey, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan (across the Caspian), Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, China, Laos, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, OZ. Many of the border crossings, particularly in Europe, will not be a problem, but I am concerned about the Central Asian countries, particularly Uzbekistan (where I understand bikes are banned as the guy running the place is paranoid of assassination), and also crossing into China from Tajikistan. Have any of you out there done this route or done any of these crossings, and what advice can you offer. Thanks, Mongo |
registration / insurance
Hi Mongo,
officially you have to have a permanent residence in Germany to register (german plates) and insure (green card) a bike .... if you can solve this, the carnet from the ADAC as a foreigner is no problem ... :D Thomas |
For registering bikes in Germany search HUBB for "export plates germany".
Also search HUBB for info on crossing China. You will probably want to re-arrange your route slightly, unless you are willing to pay $$$$$. |
Hey Mongo,
I'm planning to travel along the Silk Road in April 2014, I'm wondering how was your trip, your experience in crossing all of these countries... Cheers |
