A few credit card companies provide free travel/health insurance when you book tickets through their travel services - AMEX and Visa come to mind.

Try Carole Nash - I'm 61 and on the road right now. They use AXA. They have just extended our insurance for another 6 months but I hear they may be limiting this in future.

Hi

Thanks for the replies, got what I wanted from Direct Line, needed to ring them, but the young lady on the phone could not have been more helpfull. Seems the internet site still says " under 125 cc only" but that is no longer true

Yes, gets you emergency medical treatment but wont get you home. If you break your back then relying on an EH1C will leave you a bit short of a few thousand euros.

This is not scaremongering either - I am an insurance broker by profession and do know of a case where exactly this happened and the guy had to remortgage his house to raise the funds to get an air ambulance home.

Sometimes folks misread their policies - there are some that exclude bikes over 125cc but there are a lot of policies that exclude bikes over 125cc UNLESS the insured has a licence which allows the insured to ride the bigger bike.
