No V5 document

Hi
Bit of an urgent request.

We are taking part in the plymouth banjul rally. Its starting to look like we may not get the V5 document for our vihical on time. Is there any way we could still do the following route with no V5.

Europe - Marroco - Western Sahara - Muritaina - Sengal - The Gambia.

We should be leaveing 26st December. Any adive?

Thanks
in advance
Maz

Are there some special circumstances relating to your V5 as you aren't leaving for over 3 weeks so surely it's available through the normal channels in that length of time ?

Hi Maz

We're in Gambia having arrived via the route you'll be taking and every police check and border asks for your V5 (Carte Gris).

You'll also need the V5 for arranging insurance into Mauritania, Senegal and Gambia at the borders.

Do you have a copy of the previous owner's V5? - I am assuming that you don't have a new one because you've just bought the car.

Why will it take so long to get a new one - usually it only takes about a week with DVLA? Can you go to the local DVLA office and ask their advice as you can normally buy a new V5 at these offices and it doesn't take long to collect.

For info if it does arrive in time: we have several colour photocopies of the main page of the V5 and this is all we ever hand over - never the original - they don't know the difference.

thanks

thanks for the feedback guys.

The guy we bought the car of haddnt sent his part of the v5. We currently only have the little green slip (section 10) so we are haveing to do it. The dvla say it can take up to 6weeks, so just abit worried.

but thanks for your thoughts, hopefully we will get to the gambia on time.

I think the problem here is that the previous Keeper has not returned his part of the document or given it to you.

Without that which confirms he has no claim, the DVLA write to him giving a set period (can't remember how long) in which to reply. No reply - they then issue a V5 to you.

Outside of these circumstances, local DVLA offices can issue new V5s either while you wait, or by return of post, in proven emergency cases.
