No carnet a problem in SE Asia?
I've got a long post in the regional forum, if you're willing to check it out:
http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/hub...919#post404747 I've got several planning questions in there, but the short version is I'm trying to ship my bike from Mumbai to Singapore, and then ride it through Malaysia, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, and through China to Hong Kong. Any recommendations or suggestions for the bike paperwork would be appreciated. Thanks, Christian |
At least I needed to have Carnee in Thailand and Cambodia.
Later I will see if this is the case also with Laos. -Marko |
Thailand does not require a carnet. I believe Cambodia and Laos also do not, means you get another temporary import permit. Note, that you may very well be able to use the carnet in many countries, if you have it, but that's different from requiring it. This often leads to confusion.
Malaysia officially requires a carnet, but on land borders seems to be very relaxed about it. Indonesia basically requires a carnet, hard to enter without it. |
hi there,
i went riding (spring 2011) across Thai, Lao, Cambodia, Malaysia and Indonesia. I've got a stamp on Carnet from all of these countries... |
