Motorcycle insurance for the EU

Hello

I'm having difficulty finding an insurance company that will insure my bike long-term across the EU.

I will be travelling for an indefinite amount of time and, for the next year at least, have no plans to leave the European Union.

Would be fantastic if someone could point me in the direction of a company who will insure my bike for this.

Cheers,

Cal

Are you after just the GreenCard (ie 3rd party legal liability) or full comprehensive insurance?

For GreenCard insurance, you can get upto a maximum of 6months from MotoTouring in Milan.

Let me google that for you

Otherwise if you're planning in the EU for long term (ie. >12months), you should consider importing the vehicle via official channels.

I'm after fully-comp insurance really.

I'll be gone longer than 6 months but will not be settled in any one country long enough to justify importing it to that country.

I was under the impression that a green card merely demonstrates that you have valid cover to travel, so whilst I could get a green card from my current insurance company, that company is only able to cover me for 91 days outside of the UK.

I was hoping for a long-term fully comp policy, one that could be taken out in the UK specifically for long-term European travel.

(Also, the company Mototouring only offer cover for non-European bikes and mine is UK registered)

This is of no use to me (and most on here probably) as they only cover cars and vans, but might be of use to someone so I'll put it up.

They offer 3rd party, 3rd party fire and theft, and fully comp options for European travel from 15 days to 12 months.

Camper Van Insurance and Motor Vehicle Insurance

Okay. So,

Carole Nash 'Bespoke' insurance offered me EU travel for 365 days a year, third party, fire and theft and European AA breakdown cover (including a courtesy bike) for £633.58

Spoke to a guy named Daniel, he was very helpful—Anyone in a similar situation try giving Carole Nash a ring!

Hi Cal:

I would be very surprised if you could not find a 'normal' UK based insurance company that is willing to provide you with the cover you are seeking.

I mean, after all, you have a bike that is registered and plated in the EC (specifically, the UK), and all you want to do is extend the scope of your coverage to the remainder of the EC. That is by no means an exotic request.

Most of the insurance-related information that you will find here on HUBB deals with obtaining very basic (liability-only) insurance cover within the EC for motorcycles that are registered outside of the EC (for example, in North America).

I think all you have to do is look for another UK-based insurer who is willing to provide the cover you want. You might get better advice on this subject from a UK-specific forum, for example, UK GSer, which is a forum for UK based riders of the BMW GS series. Those folks do a lot of riding on the continent, I am sure they have long since figured out who to go to to obtain exactly the cover you are seeking.

Have a look at my post (number 18) in this thread for a UK based alternative:-

I'm with Carol Nash on their Harley-Davidson policy from Groupama. Unlimited EU+ cover and recovery in most of Europe for £400 for two bikes of high value (agreed value policy).
