Motorbike Insurance: Morocco

Just discovered that my insurance company (NIG) will not cover me and my Africa Twin for a trip to Morocco in January. In fact even for Europe they wanted to know exactly which countries I would be travelling through before they would issue a 'green card'.

So is it possible to buy motorbike insurance at the border (Ceuta)?

Few African countries accept the Green Card, Tunisia is an exception, not sure about Morocco, it may have changed. Otherwise, the rule is that if liability insurance is required, they'll make you buy it at the border. If not, just don't get in an accident.

As for collision and/or theft insurance for Africa, I don't think you can get it. http://www.motorcycleexpress.com has foreign coverage, but only for US or Canadian citizens. I'm not sure anything comparable exists for UK residents. You could try one of the following sites, but I wouldn't get your hopes up:

https://www.directchoice.co.uk/home/ OR

https://quotes.bennetts.co.uk/ OR
http://www.clickquote.com/bikes/?AID=1508864&PID=607300

Good solid cable lock and a bike alarm is your best bet.

Anybody else out there with more recent or contradictory experience is welcome to butt in here!

You can buy it at Ceuta, in fact you have to to get the importation certificate. At least that was the case back in March. It wasn't too expensive. You buy it in multiple's of weeks.

If I remember rightly the procedure was:
1. Change money.
2. Import yourself (passport stamp)
3. Buy insurance.
4. Import your bike.

Needless to say, there's a multitude of forms to be acquired and filled in. There's lot's of 'assistants' around who'll help you, for a price, and may be worthwhile to reduce hassle, stress and avoid delays.

Cheers
